Who we are

Lake Effect Architects, Inc., an architecture practice based in Lake Bluff, Illinois. If you want to reach us about anything on this page, email rob@leffect.com or call 847.987.1000.

What we collect

Only what you type into the inquiry form on the contact page:

• Your name and email address
• Your phone number, if you give one
• The project type, location and budget range you select
• Whatever you write in the message field

We use it to answer you and, if the project goes ahead, to run it. We do not sell it, rent it, or send you marketing you did not ask for.

What we do not collect

This site sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. There is no advertising, no tracking pixels, no account to create, and nothing that follows you to other sites. We do count which pages get opened, which is described below, and that count cannot be traced back to you.

Third parties

A few services see something when you use this site:

• Our host serves the pages and keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses.
• Our host also counts page visits for us: which pages were opened, roughly which country the request came from, and which site linked here. It sets no cookie, builds no profile, and cannot identify you.
• Google Fonts serves the two typefaces. Your browser requests them from Google, which means Google receives your IP address. Nothing else is sent.
• Anthropic receives the text of any question you type into the Ask panel, in order to answer it. Do not put personal or confidential information into that box; use the inquiry form or email instead.

Inquiries submitted through the form are delivered to us by email through our email provider, and are also written to a private spreadsheet we keep, so that a message is not lost if an email fails to arrive. Nobody outside the practice has access to it.

How long we keep it

Inquiry emails stay in our mail account, and a copy stays in the spreadsheet. Correspondence and records for projects we take on are kept as long as we need them for the work and for our professional and insurance obligations afterwards.

Your choices

Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will. Email rob@leffect.com. If deleting something would leave us unable to meet a legal or professional obligation, we will tell you which part we have to keep and why.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this page changes we will update the date at the top. There is no mailing list to notify, because we do not keep one.

This page is written in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, and describes what the site actually does. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. If the practice starts collecting anything beyond the inquiry form, or takes on clients in a jurisdiction with its own requirements, have it reviewed.
