The Mayflower Residence
Lake Forest, Illinois. A whole-house renovation of a Georgian residence of 1995, which gave the front a portico to stand under and rebuilt the garage wing so that it belongs to the house beside it.

The original 14,000 square foot residence was constructed in 1995. Following its acquisition by new owners, we performed an extensive renovation to transform both the interior and exterior of the home.
The interior programme included relocating the primary suite to the second floor, as well as creating a wood-panelled library, a wine cellar with an adjoining tasting room, and a new family room and kitchen. A screened porch was added adjacent to the kitchen, extending the living spaces into the landscape.
On the front elevation, the garage wing was redesigned to establish a stronger architectural relationship with the main body of the house. A new entrance portico was also introduced to provide a more gracious sense of arrival while visually moderating the residence's substantial vertical scale. Collectively, these interventions reinforce the home's Georgian character and unify its two wings into a more cohesive architectural composition.
